Becoming a Better Basketball Player

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Basketball is one of the most commonly played sports in the world. Big league games are followed with such obedience, and this goes to show just how much love is given to the game. For the regular basketball player (whether professional or casual player), improving the quality of the game is one of those long term goals set. On that note, there are some things you could do to become a better player.

Don’t play too much basketball. Even when basketball is your livelihood, there is such a thing as playing too much. The game is supposed to be fun, not monotonous. That is what it becomes if you play every single waking moment. Alternate between playing and training, and dedicate at least 2 days a week to rest. When you play three or four times a week, you are able to maintain the thrill of playing, and you never get tired of showing up to the court.
Improve your strength. While you may improve your speed, agility, and your dribbling and shooting skills, that won’t suffice in making you the ultimate player. Strength will make you more powerful and less likely to suffer an injury. ON that note, do dedicate sometime to exercise, weight lifting to improve your muscle strength and endurance.

Importance of Staying In Shape For Basketball

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

The game of basketball is one of the most commonly played ones in the world. It is an easy game to learn, and the fact that it keeps you constantly active means it’s a good sport to take up if you want to stay healthy through the years. If you play basketball on a regular, and want your game to always be at its peak, you need to embrace the idea of first getting, and staying in shape.

Not many people willingly join the gym to stay in shape. Most find that as an unnecessary inconvenience, and only do it when their state of health demands it. But your game of basketball will not get better if you don’t resolve to get in shape. You need speed in basketball, as well as agility, and a strong heart to keep playing for hours on end. Fat stored away in your midsection, regardless of how little, will definitely slow you down, and decrease the quality of your game. Prepping your body first by getting in shape will drastically improve the speed of your movement. With some dribbling and shooting skills, your game will be boosted. Ultimately this will increase the amount of fun you have playing hoops, and with more regular games, you’ll be able to sustain your new toned physique.
